I'm Here!

Hello!

I made it here safe and sound (a bit late for orientation and all that, but it's all good). I'd like to start by noting that the plane was cool cause it had touchscreens in the back of the seat in front of you. You could pick whatever movie or tv show or cd or game you wanted. It was pretty cool.

I got to Shannon at roughly 8 in the morning, local time, on Thursday. Took me a while to get my passport cleared but then I was off.

Two days of Orientation....

On Friday night, I met up with some girls I'd met. We went to the Stables (the pub on campus). It's totally where all of the craic is. (Don't know what craic is? Your loss. Haha) It was great fun. There was a live Irish band there for the first part of the night, and after that, they played lots of fun (mostly American) songs. Things like "You're the One That I Want" from Grease and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." We also saw some people get up and do a traditional Irish dance. It was so cool!

On Saturday, a group of people I met at Orientation and we all went into the city. We took the bus (1.45 euro each way) into the city.

We stopped in on King John's castle (My friend did tag me in some pictures from there on Facebook if you want to check them out). Unfortunately, my batteries died right before we got there, so I wasn't able to take my own pictures.

We proceeded to eat and shop and whatnot. My favorite part was how the group let me stop and buy some knitting wool. (I've made a really cute hat already, and some people seem interested in investing in some warm hats and scarves, so it's all good.)

On Sunday night, I once again met up with some girls and headed out to The Lodge (a club for UL Students). It was packed by 10:30. The music in clubs here is really quite good. It's stuff you can sing along to, and a very minimal amount of rap. We had so much fun!

And finally, we get to today. I got up. And I went to classes. Many many classes. My schedule's below (and it's in Irish time). MS is a math class. MD is Irish Music and Dance. PH is physics. EC is Economics.

There will be more photos on my Facebook for your perusal shortly.

Hope all is well across the pond.

Newark Airport

Hello Once Again.

I am currently sitting in the Newark Airport, waiting for my plane to Shannon, Ireland. I have a nice long layover here (Over 4 hours!), so I figured I'd hop on to the computer and share my experience so far. Here's how the day's gone:

We arrived at the airport. Daddy and I put my brand new TSA locks on to my luggage so that it wouldn't get broken in to. Here's my daddy, smiling at how awesome my luggage is!

We got into the airport, and Dad decided that I should pose by one of the security signs. "Do a Vanna White," he said. And of course... I obliged. Ha

I made it out to my gate. It was oh so exciting. I sat there for a while. And played with my camera.

My flight from Atlanta to Newark was only about 2 hours long, but I managed to take lots of pictures before we even took off! One of the greatest parts of the flight was that I had my side of the aisle all to myself. Nobody was sitting in the two seats next to me!

Oh. And the "snack" Continental gave us was ridiculous. Check it out. That's a Turkey Sandwich!

I also took lots and lots of pictures out my window. Here are some of my favorites! (By the way, you can click on the picture to view it in its larger form.)

And last but not least for this photo full post, I'd like to share with you a sign that is almost directly next to my gate. Apparently, somebody here is in cahoots with the Irish. :-D

So long. Farewell. Slán agat.

Getting Ready to Go

Hello All!

I am currently finishing up my packing for Ireland! I am getting super excited for the trip, but I don't think that it has really hit me that I'm going. I think it will once I hear all of the accents in the Shannon Airport and get into a Taxi that drives on the wrong side of the road.

I'm headed out this Wednesday, September 3. My flight to Newark is at 12:41, and then my flight to Shannon is at 7:35. It'll be great, seeing as I'm going to be landing in Shannon at 7am Irish time, which is equivalent to 2am EST (they're 5 hours ahead). I hope I can sleep on the plane, because I have to go straight from the airport to Orientation, which starts at 9.

I'll be staying in an 8-person house in Plassey Village. It's strange to think that University of Limerick's on-campus housing is set up like neighborhoods all around the campus. I think that I'm definitely going to enjoy it, though, since I have my own room! Yay for that!

So, as I finish preparing for the trip of a lifetime, know that you are all in my thoughts. I can't wait to be in Ireland, but I will miss everyone back here in the States!
