I'm Here!

Hello!

I made it here safe and sound (a bit late for orientation and all that, but it's all good). I'd like to start by noting that the plane was cool cause it had touchscreens in the back of the seat in front of you. You could pick whatever movie or tv show or cd or game you wanted. It was pretty cool.

I got to Shannon at roughly 8 in the morning, local time, on Thursday. Took me a while to get my passport cleared but then I was off.

Two days of Orientation....

On Friday night, I met up with some girls I'd met. We went to the Stables (the pub on campus). It's totally where all of the craic is. (Don't know what craic is? Your loss. Haha) It was great fun. There was a live Irish band there for the first part of the night, and after that, they played lots of fun (mostly American) songs. Things like "You're the One That I Want" from Grease and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." We also saw some people get up and do a traditional Irish dance. It was so cool!

On Saturday, a group of people I met at Orientation and we all went into the city. We took the bus (1.45 euro each way) into the city.

We stopped in on King John's castle (My friend did tag me in some pictures from there on Facebook if you want to check them out). Unfortunately, my batteries died right before we got there, so I wasn't able to take my own pictures.

We proceeded to eat and shop and whatnot. My favorite part was how the group let me stop and buy some knitting wool. (I've made a really cute hat already, and some people seem interested in investing in some warm hats and scarves, so it's all good.)

On Sunday night, I once again met up with some girls and headed out to The Lodge (a club for UL Students). It was packed by 10:30. The music in clubs here is really quite good. It's stuff you can sing along to, and a very minimal amount of rap. We had so much fun!

And finally, we get to today. I got up. And I went to classes. Many many classes. My schedule's below (and it's in Irish time). MS is a math class. MD is Irish Music and Dance. PH is physics. EC is Economics.

There will be more photos on my Facebook for your perusal shortly.

Hope all is well across the pond.

Abigail
